Special features regarding teachingThe department's Bachelor's and Master's degree courses are coordinated with each other, so that it is easy to switch between the degree courses. The Department of Mathematics has strong contacts to the other departments at FAU (Humanities, Engineering, Medicine, Natural Sciences, Economics and Social Sciences), so that contact to the application areas can be easily established already during the degree. If the prerequisites are met, doctoral studies can be pursued after the Master's degree.

Exchange universities for stay abroadsSyddansk Universitet, Dänemark; Stockholms universitet, Schweden; Universite de Rennes 1, Frankreich; Universita degli Studi di Firenze, Italien; Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spanien
-
Special features regarding the equipmentThe Department of Mathematics is housed in a new building on Erlangen's southern campus and is equipped with its own lecture halls, seminar rooms, PC pools and student learning zones. Our own server structure allows our students to carry out complex mathematical calculations on the PC in the context of seminar papers or theses.
-
Special features regarding research activitiesEmphasis on modelling, analysis and simulation of fluid-structure interactions, multiphase flows, interfacial phenomena on small length scales, image processing, a posteriori estimation of modelling errors, efficient discretisation (HPC), infinite-dimensional Lie groups in quantum field theory, modular representation theory, quantum groups and duality theory, noncommutative symmetries, operator theory, stochastics of dynamical systems, combinatorial and mixed-integer optimisation, nonlinear programming, optimisation of systems and on networks.
