Special features regarding teachingThree different degree specialisations: a) Physics, with research degree for particularly strong students, b) nanoscience, application- and research-oriented c) computational science, interdisciplinary (mathematics, genomics, physics) with large range of options to choose from. All degree courses: Small groups, personal counselling. Wide range of IT training, by the department (with a subject-specific focus, see http://www.physik.uni-regensburg.de/studium/it/) as well as by the university. Degree courses can be started in the summer.

Special features regarding the equipmentMany laboratories with state-of-the-art facilities, e.g. magneto-optics and electronics, for the manufacture of atom-thin layered structures. Clean room for the production and characterisation of semiconductor structures. Scanning tunnel and atomic force microscopy, electron microscopy. Laboratories for ultrafast optics and for organic semiconductors (OLEDs). In-house development of high-performance computers (QPACE). Central Linux computer cluster.
Support for foundersFUTUR (University of Regensburg Office of Knowledge and Technology Transfer) is a central facility offering personalised advice for founders, advice and guidance with funding, contact and contract mediation, use of equipment and lab space on start-up-friendly terms, participation in trade show exhibits from the University of Regensburg, practice-oriented competition for students on setting up a business, showcase for new and creative business ideas from all departments
Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsThe university offers central contacts for students with chronic conditions, disabilities, developmental disorders or specific learning differences, see http://www.uni-regensburg.de/studium/handicap/ansprechpartner/index.html. The faculty is in close contact with the advice centre for students with disabilities. All members of the faculty work with affected students individually according to their personal requirements.
