Special features regarding teachingFor the Physics degree, the Universität Potsdam offers a framework which can be individually designed with small groups, personal contact to the teaching staff and early involvement in research groups. In the fields of Astrophysics and Climate Physics, colleagues from institutes for Astrophysics, Climate Change Research and for Polar and Marine Research are highly involved in teaching on both the Bachelor's as well as Master's levels. The new buildings on the Natural Sciences Campus Golm provide the best conditions for successful academic studies.
Special features regarding the international orientationIf Master’s students from abroad without adequate knowledge of German sit in lectures, exercises or seminars, those classes will be held in English, provided that the German-speaking participants agree.
Exchange universities for stay abroadsUniversidad de Santiago de Compostela/Spanien; Université Grenoble Alpes/Frankreich; Università degli Studi di Firenze/Italien; Università degli Studi di Padova/Italien; Università degli Studi di Torino/Italien; Politechnika Lubelska/Polen; Uniwersytet Warszawski/Polen; Umeå universitet/Schweden; Istanbul Teknik Üniversitesi/Türkei; Yildiz Teknik Universitesi/Türkei
Special features regarding the equipmentThe Institute of Physics is a generously designed new building with bright lecture theatres and large work space for students. Seminar rooms, free seating areas, two computer clusters and student organisation rooms are available to students from the first semester. The institute has state-of-the-art equipment for the analysis of the dynamic properties of physical systems on all relevant time and length scales, including several optical laser experiments with femtosecond time resolution, various scanning probe and light microscopes, as well as cell culture and microstructure laboratories.
Support for foundersThe university supports start-ups with UP Transfer GmbH. Its most important task is to organise modern and competitive knowledge and technology transfer at the University of Potsdam and effectively add to its excellence in research and teaching through professional transfer of its findings from science and research. Physics spin-offs include Diamond Inventics GmbH, an analytics company.
