Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
The education in Mathematics at WWU is characterised by high standards and high graduate rates. Existing course programmes are continuously and critically evaluated and adapted to changing requirements. These quality improvement efforts resulted, for example, in successful acquisition of two additional professorships and further funds from Germany's Excellence Programme for Teaching.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Full WiFi coverage; Fast, bidirectional network connection; Contractual transfer of favourable hardware and software terms such as MSDNAA; Interactive smart boards in many teaching rooms; Powerful printer and copier infrastructure; persistent IDs.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
The Mathrix programme of the Mathematical Institute supports women scientists in the WWU’s equal opportunity programme. Junior professorships in Mathematics for young women researchers are advertised and new appointments made every three years. In the first round, excellent young women researchers were appointed to two of these positions. At a slightly lower level, the institute has introduced Ada Lovelace scholarships to encourage strong female candidates to take a PhD. The scholarship covers full financial support and is offered every year.
