Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
With its 20 professors and three affiliated research institutes, the department guarantees its students a very wide range of Computer Science topics in its teaching. Advanced students can participate in numerous research projects and write their final theses. Collaborations with foreign partners offer many opportunities for a period of study abroad. A doctoral programme offers very good Bachelor's graduates the possibility of integrating their own research activities into the postgraduate course and to therefore complete a doctorate earlier.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Extensive computer and software equipment is available to the students on three levels. The regional university computer centre (RHRK) provides several computer rooms, a high-performance computer and a central printing service. The SCI (Computer Science Service Centre) provides the department's own IT provision with a total of 100 terminal workstations in four rooms. All work groups in the department provide sufficient student workplaces to carry out practical placements and final theses.
  • Special features regarding research activities
The Computer Science department is at the core of one of the largest IT (research) centres in Germany. The profile is characterised by the engineering design of information systems. General research aims are the improvement of system reliability, adaptability as well as equipping these systems with more artificial intelligence. The central application areas of the site are Embedded Systems, Intelligent and Distributed Information Systems, as well as Scientific Computing.
