Special features regarding teachingSaarbrücken Computer Science has the highest degree of internationalisation of all Saarland University. In the Master's area, more than 50% of the students come from abroad. The number of international staff and postdocs is also above average. The Masters degree course is taught in English. The numerous academic directors and heads of the computer science institutes on campus (honorary professors) offer courses, extremely broadening the breadth in education.

Special features regarding the equipmentWiFi access in all Computer Science buildings. In addition, there are 200 computer workstations available (accessible around the clock due to an RFID-based access control system). At the chairs, there are around a further 100 workstations which can mainly be used by advanced students. The Max Planck Institutes and the DFKI (German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence) also provide resources for students. Remote connections available to all students so they can access their familiar work environment from anywhere in the world.
-
Special features regarding research activitiesThe location is the only one in the whole of Germany that has been able to establish a computer science-centred excellence cluster and a computer science graduate school at the same time. The research strength has led to great successes at the European level in addition to a great deal of national third-party funding. There are 20 ERC grantees conducting research at the site. Many research projects are interdisciplinary, which at the same time underlines the fact that computer science has bridges to almost all other faculties at Saarland University.

Support for foundersIn the BMWi competition "Die Gründerhochschule" (The University for Start-ups), Saarland University was one of only three with the most convincing overall strategy to be awarded the title "EXIST University for Start-ups". This provides the best possible flanking for business start-ups. Furthermore, Saarbrücker Informatik is actively involved in the IT Inkubator GmbH, whose task is to identify marketing potentials from developments in basic research together with our researchers and to develop them further until they are ready for the market.
-
Other special featuresApprox. twelve years ago, the specialist libraries of Computer Science, Mathematics and the Max Planck Institute of Computer Science and Software Systems were integrated, as well as the DFKI, into one of the largest Computer Science specialist libraries in Germany. Researchers and students of all Computer Science institutes therefore have full access to the complete collection. The merger enabled the procurement of duplicates and the expansion of the stock. No savings were made regarding personnel but the service offering was expanded.
