  • Special features regarding the equipment
The Faculty of Mathematics has generous and modern, well-equipped computer rooms and a wide range of software. The WiFi coverage of the uni network covers the entire campus. Teaching takes place in modern lecture theatres and seminar rooms, which contain – in addition to modern electronic teaching aids (such as projection screens, projectors, sound systems) – the large boards necessary for lively Mathematics lectures.
  • Special features regarding research activities
Key research areas: Analytical, Numerical and Stochastic Analysis of Mathematical Models in Physics, Mechanics and Technology; High-Performance Computing and Algorithmic Principles of Numerical Simulation of Current Problems in Continuum Mechanics; Numerical Linear Algebra and Optimal Control; Applied Harmonious Analysis; Analysis of Random Operators; Inverse Problems and Stochastic Analysis with Applications in Financial Mathematics and Technology; Discrete and Convex Optimisation in Economy and Industry; Mirror Symmetry and Irregular Singularities of Physical Models.
  • Support for founders
There is active support for start-ups at the university, for example through the start-up network SAXEED. The start-up network SAXEED promotes and supports start-ups by professors, university staff, students and graduates. For this purpose, those interested in founding a company are qualified in various subject areas and those who have decided to found a company are individually supported. Company founders are in good hands at the Technologie Centrum Chemnitz, which is located on the university's technology campus in the direct vicinity of the Faculty of Mathematics.
  • Other special features
The faculty has the Mathematics Study Centre for joint learning outside of courses, but which is still supported by tutors. The linking of theory and practice is supported by excursions. The good rapport between teaching staff and students is regularly maintained through joint leisure events, such as summer BBQs and Christmas lectures. For students, there is a wide range of positions as scientific assistants. Numerous student clubs and student initiatives provide a wide range of cultural activities.
