Special features regarding teachingNew forms of teaching that are based on teamwork: the team project is a form of teaching where the students work on a specific, practice-related and/or research-related task in supervised groups. At least one team project while studying, more team projects possible; practical relevance and proximity to research through subject-specific "team projects" in every subject of Computer Science, example topics: IoT developments and test environments, design and development of ERP modules, deep learning applications, search services or data mining functions, social network analysis and customer preferences.

Special features regarding the equipmentBuilding newly renovated and modernised for the faculty; more than 25 computer laboratories; SAP competence centre at the faculty (UCC); modern seminar rooms and lecture theatres; link to the German Research Network (DFN) with 10 GBit/sec (fibre optics); all servers are connected to the campus and, depending on service, the relevant private networks of FIN with 1G or 10G; the most varied software systems; university WLAN as well as Access Points which are accessible everywhere, even outside the buildings ("FIN im Grünen" – "FIN outdoors"); in terms of data, all labs are connected with at least 2x 10G LWL and 4x1G copper cables.

Special features regarding research activitiesResearch at the faculty is integrated across faculties in research centres and focal points for transfer (in cooperation with Neuroscience, Digital Engineering, Automotive) as well as in three faculty research focal points (Image, Knowledge, Interaction). Companies such as IBM, SAP, T-Systems, Bridging-IT and Fujitsu work with the MRCC (Magdeburg Research and Competence Cluster for Very Large Business Applications) here. Research is combined with teaching.

Support for foundersThe department supports interested parties in the start-up of businesses, and also supports the TUGZ at the university in this work. Apart from this, there is also a start-up school that provides a modern training programme and which helps you with the following: To identify and evaluate business ideas, gain access to the start-up scene and obtain assistance with the application for state and federal grant programmes. Further support by the SAP Big Data Innovation Centre. Students also have the option of taking a specialisation in the field of web start-ups.

Other special featuresSmartboards; laboratory for land and air robotics; Landesdemonstrationszentrum für Schul-IT (State demonstration centre for school IT) (close cooperation with the degree course Media Education at the Faculty of Human Sciences); 24-hour access to the building and to the laboratories is possible; Business Informatics is part of the Faculty of Computer Science; the faculty sees itself as a faculty of Engineering. The world's largest SAP university competence centre (SAP UCC) is located at the Faculty of Computer Science and is the basis for research and development on business applications; Student participation realised through team projects.
