  • Special features regarding teaching
    BA/MA mathematics with specialisation options; Very good tutor-student ratio, individual support; Specialisation does not have to be chosen for three semesters (high level of flexibility); Regular student surveys on quality of teaching; High percentage of applied mathematics; One of only a few sites in Germany offering a master's degree in statistics; The BA in applied statistics is a joint degree course with the Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal; Career-Orientated Practical; Lecture series; BA in mathematical engineering with equal shares in mathematics and technology.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    Erasmus agreements with KU Leuven (Belgium), École Nationale de l'Aviation Civile Toulouse (France), Politecnico di Milano (Italy), Universidad de Alicante (Spain), Orta Dogu Teknik Üniversitesi Ankara (Turkey), Uppsala universitet (Sweden). There are also research partnerships attached to most of these locations.

    WiFi on campus; Online access to scientific literature (e-books, electronic journals) and to the mathematics database MathSciNet of the university library from campus and from home; In addition to central computer labs there are 2 departmental computer labs with 20 or 5 workstations with specialist software such as Magma, Maple, Matlab, R and SPSS; Access to mathematics software from home; Laboratory with electronic whiteboard; Sockets for mobile devices
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    Provisions for reasonable adjustments and for individual programme schedules are made in all study and examination regulations. Accessible teaching and office buildings.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    Family-friendly university: Support for staff members and students with children, including through campus daycare facility, campus children’s room, parent and child room. Support for foreign staff and students through the International Office. "Internationales Begegnungszentrum”, an international meeting centre with apartments for international visiting scholars. In the "Mathematical Complexity Reduction” Research Training Group, specific gender quotas were agreed upon with the DFG and met through targeted advertising and active recruitment. Currently 50% women and 35% foreign nationals have been appointed.
  • Other special features
    For freshers, there are also additional guidance and support services from MatheSupport (students in later semesters are available every day as contacts to deal with subject-specific questions relating to the courses) and a mentoring programme for freshers (student initiative of the departmental student organisation). The departmental student organisation runs various social events (e.g. sports events).
