Special features regarding teachingA special feature of Physics at the UDE is that the lectures of the subject and teaching qualification degree courses are fully separated. The faculty can therefore optimise the lectures for the relevant course groups. Several computer practicals are offered in the field of Theoretical Physics in the compulsory courses.

Special features regarding the equipmentThe level of apparatus and equipment is very good (TEM, FIB, TR-PEEM, nanoprobe). After the construction of the NanoEnergieTechnikZentrums (NETZ, Nano Energy Technical Centre), several new large-scale devices have been put into operation under the academic supervision of the Faculty of Physics (Cs corrected TEM, Microfocus-XPS, TOF-SIMS). Some prototypes are created in the faculty (TR-XRD, TR-RHEED, LT-BEEM). The faculty has a 35 cm telescope which is above all used for educational purposes and for public events.
Special features regarding research activitiesA characteristic feature of the faculty is its participation in research networks that make a significant contribution to the UDE's profile priorities of "Nanosciences" and "Urban Systems". Physics supports the SFB 1242 and is involved in other SFBs, in the Cluster of Excellence RESOLV and in many other collaborations. Activities in the nanosciences are bundled and coordinated by CENIDE (Centre for Nanointegration Duisburg-Essen). With the fields of Physics of Traffic and Business Physics, the research of socio-economic systems is particularly strongly represented.
