Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
Students should study independently as much as possible. The study content is continuously adapted to new developments. This means, for example, that the mandatory curriculum only contains content that is absolutely necessary. Later in the course there are more and more options and the forms of teaching become more project-like.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Thanks to the many contacts abroad and the intensive support provided by our international representative, exchange places can be offered to every interested student. Due to the large degrees of freedom in the degree programmes and the generous practice of recognition, exchange semesters do not extend the study time. In addition, the department is distinguished throughout the university by a large number of exchange students from other universities.
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
Dundalk Institute of Technology, Irland; Tallinn Technical University, Estland; Izmir Institute of Technology, Türkei; Ege-University, Türkei; UPM Madrid, Spanien.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
The computer science department is growing strongly. A second computer science building was opened in 2006, which significantly improved the spatial situation. Our buildings have broadband internet and are connected to the science network. Powerful WiFi across the computer science department. When it comes to computing infrastructure, we have been focusing on virtualization for years, which means we can easily adapt to demand. Although we increasingly focus on "bring your own device", computer rooms are still available.
  • Support for founders
there are now a number of spin-offs that have originated from development work by the department.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
Members of the department have set up the "Blindenzentrum (BLIZ)" at the THM, which has now become a central facility and supports people with vision impairment. Some of these people are students on the Informatics degree programmes.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
As a technology-based department, we endeavour to achieve similar numbers of each gender among our students. We have succeeded in doing this in our new “Social Media Systems” programme. Among the staff, too, there has been a shift towards more female professors and female staff members.
  • Other special features
The THM is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany, the Department of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Computer Science (MNI) is the largest department of the THM. This results in a large number of specialist offers that can also be implemented in organisational and personnel terms. Through the semester arrangement of all our degree programmes, it is possible to get started on a flexible with individual time organisation for our degree courses.
