Special features regarding the equipmentThe computer science department has 7 computer pools with modern equipment with more than 170 PCs, which are available for practicals! There are also several specialist teaching and research laboratories, e.g. for computer graphics, network technology, IT security/forensics and a biosensor laboratory for media informatics/VR/AR and for gaming. All teaching rooms are equipped with the very latest presentation technology. The library has an excellent books and online collection. The IT infrastructure is provided by the university’s own computer centre.
Support for foundersHS Mittweida University of Applied Sciences supports students who are interested in setting up a business in a variety of ways, from business plan games to entrepreneurship courses. The Faculty of Applied Computer and Biosciences also has a separate foundation professorship for "Digital Business/E-Entrepreneurship", which offers entrepreneurial skills in the area of digital business models. The theory should culminate in specific start-up projects and/or support and advance the same; there is also close cooperation in this area with the "Saxeed" start-up network and the Blockchain-CompetenzCentrum Mittweida.
Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsThe university’s social contact office is prepared for students who have health impairments and can also provide appropriate assistive equipment/technology (e.g. hearing amplifiers, etc.). It also offers advisory services, e.g. on reasonable adjustments for examinations.
Characteristics of diversity advancementThe department strives to achieve gender balance. Women are regularly appointed among the teaching staff and in other academic roles. Hochschule Mittweida has been certified as a family-friendly university on several occasions and is generally concerned with the compatibility of studying, professional life and family. This extends to alternative means of examination for students who are single parents. A childcare facility is provided on the campus.
Other special featuresThere are close cooperative relationships with numerous regional and national companies and authorities, including the state and federal criminal police agencies, police directorates in Saxony, public prosecutors, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice. For example, continuing education courses in the area of digital forensics/IT security/cybercrime are regularly taught by faculty lecturers. This way, teachers will gain deep insights into the work of the investigating authorities and will be confronted with practical questions, which in turn will be incorporated into the education.
