  • Special features regarding teaching
In teaching, the necessary "basic skills" for future computer scientists are comprehensively taken into account; from the very beginning, emphasis is placed on practical implementation in laboratory exercises. Building on this, the second stage of the course offers more advanced courses in future-oriented areas such as data science, artificial intelligence, IT security, the Internet of Things, virtuality, mobile and geo applications, and others. The specialisations particularly address these and other future topics in computer science. Many of the teaching staff are also active in externally funded research.
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
Business Academy South West, Dänemark; Lucian Blaga University, Rumänien; Universidad de Rey Juan Carlos, Spanien; Fachhochschule Oberösterreich, Österreich; Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finnland
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Excellently newly equipped laboratories for databases, geoinformation systems, mobile systems and robotics, IT security and virtual applications; numerous newly equipped virtualised computer cabinets also for self-study; lecture and seminar rooms with up-to-date media and presentation technology.
  • Special features regarding research and development
The faculty contributes about half of the third-party income of the Harz University of Applied Sciences, but accommodates only about a quarter of the students. Funding sources are diverse and range from industry, the state, the federal government and the DFG to the EU.
  • Support for founders

Once a year, a 3-day event – Innovation Days – is organised where all necessary steps are explained and presented by experts, from idea generation to business plan. Students and external experts manage an EGO Summer Academy, which is funded by the state.
  • Other special features
Degree in Computer Science at a small campus university with a high practical relevance The advisory board of the computer science degree programme continuously takes practical requirements into account in the design of the degree programme.
