  • Special features regarding teaching
    A particular focus is on the integration of science and practice in digitisation: Already in the Bachelor's programme, students learn to develop methodically sound approaches to real problems in group work; classic case studies, so-called Capstone projects and design seminars in cooperation with practice; in the Master 9-month design thinking projects in cooperation with industrial companies; new teaching formats to build up required methodological know-how, e.g. online courses, "Design-oriented Research in Information Systems" (preparation for final thesis).
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    In addition to the university's central service centres for the promotion of study-related stays abroad, the KIT faculties for Computer Science and Economics have their own service facilities that coordinate the international cooperation between the faculties and serve as first contact points for subject-specific advice to KIT students and international exchange students. Students of the Business Informatics course are specifically supported and helped in the planning and implementation of their stay abroad.

    Entire campus with WiFi; 24-hour pool rooms with 75 workstations, special laboratory with 40 individual cabins, another 400 PC workstations; all seminar rooms are digitally equipped; 50 loan notebooks for students; libraries, some with 24-hour access, with approx. 1500 WIFI learning spaces, of which approx. 300 for Wiwi / Info; partly lecture recordings and live translations; hundreds of international databases available; high-priced products such as Ansys, Autodesk, MatLab, Mathematica, Maple, SAS or SPSS free of charge for students; High / highest performance computer for project work.

    The Department of Information Systems is involved in numerous interdisciplinary research projects, including in: Cross-location Baden-Württemberg initiatives ForDigital (research alliance digitalization) and digilog@BW (digitalisation in dialogue); "Karlsruhe Decision & Design Laboratory" (one of the largest experimental laboratories in Europe); structured doctoral training: DFG-funded Research Training Group starts in 2020; Industry-on-campus research, teaching and innovation at KSRI: Networking of skills in science and practice in the field of digitalisation.

    The Department of Entrepreneurship, Technology Management and Innovation provides support, in identifying of potential for start-ups, for their strategic planning and efficient realisation as well as for ensuring the sustainability of organisations, the identification, development and utilisation of core skills in a changing environment with the focus on capacity for innovation and competitiveness of the players in the innovation system. The "KIT incubator for start-ups" initiative informs and supports students with respect to establishing a business

    The department is particularly committed to the further development of the discipline and the Business Informatics degree course throughout Germany: Prof. Dr. Weinhardt: Editor-in-Chief of Business & Information Systems Engineering; Prof. Dr. Sunyaev: Deputy spokesman for the Business Informatics section of the Gesellschaft für Informatik; Prof. Dr. Weinhardt and Prof. Dr. Sunyaev: Members of the executive committee of the DACH-Business Informatics; Prof. Dr. Mädche: Responsible for the Business Information Systems Brand Task Force (including the redesign of a central website)
