  • Special features regarding teaching
Industrial Engineering at Constance uses the models Technology Manager or Engineering Entrepreneur as a basis. It is composed of 50% technical and 50% economics content. The courses provide first-class, practice-related and individual training in Industrial Engineering. Training objective is responsible and broad entrepreneurial thinking.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Industrial Engineering programmes are designed in such a way that stays abroad can be realised easily. Credit recognition is possible especially with respect to compulsory electives, but also in compulsory subjects. Before going abroad, students generally receive commitments regarding the credits obtained abroad. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has a partnership and exchange programme (teachers and students) with the Kettering University Flint (Michigan, USA).
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Experimental setups during the course which are further developed and run by the students in the lab, increasing the practical relevance of the course. Highly modern facilities are available for research and development topics. A high standard of equipment guarantees fulfilment of the high demands on application-oriented research in the key research areas.
  • Special features regarding research and development
Research projects in Innovation Management (e.g. CoPS research group) supported by various sponsors promote inter-disciplinary teaching of a wide range of subjects. Technical research labs (e.g. model factory, lean production lab, simulation lab, materials) are operated together with industrial partners and cooperating companies. This results in pronounced integration of students, many of whom go on to do a doctorate in the field. 5 cooperative doctorates in the period 2013-2015.
  • Website with further information on research activities
  • Support for founders
Entrepreneurs’ lab of the Industrial Engineering programme to support university spin-offs; A cross-departmental Start-Up Weekend is organised regularly; Entrepreneur support including incubation options through Campus Start-Up; Integration of the Faculty with the Entrepreneurs’ Network Konstanz, particularly close cooperation with the Konstanz Technology Centre; Cooperation with the Lake Constance model factory with respect to Industry 4.0 innovations; Possibility to use Open Innovation Lab of the HTWG for innovation projects by students; Numerous successful spin-offs from Industrial Engineering.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
The faculty of Mechanical Engineering strives to establish educational equality and equal opportunity and take into consideration the special needs of the increasingly heterogeneous student body during their student life cycle through disadvantage compensation. For instance, the university works to ensure that the needs of students with disabilities or health impairments receive more attention.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    Auditor status for refugees
  • Other special features
Individual support for students (individual study course planning); Arrangement of interesting, challenging project, thesis and entry options through faculty-specific networks; Several cooperative doctorates; Applied research and development in a high-tech environment; More than 50% of students spend a semester abroad.
