Other special featuresMagdeburg has a population of around 230,000 – not too large and anonymous and not too small that there is nothing going on. With 19,000 students at the university and university of applied sciences, there is an active student scene. The "Kiste" medical student club on the campus is legendary. Apartments in renovated old buildings or rooms in student halls of residence next to the campus are inexpensive. Students can get around cheaply using a bike or their semester ticket. Magdeburg is the second most green city in Germany. The numerous parks and the banks of the Elbe are highly popular. Areas for sunbathing and jogging routes offer relaxation for optimum use of time.
