Special features regarding teachingThe inter-disciplinary training of the students in Human Medicine begins in the "pre-clinical learning centre", in which the participating disciplines are brought together under one roof. In the clinical study phase, the students' career focus is supported by a wide range of optional required subjects which enables the specialisation on an "academic-scientific career" or a "clinical-practical focus". Learning targets are described in an internet-based learning objective checklist (ILKUM) (including video recordings of lectures): http://www.um-mainz.de/rfl/studium-lehre/uebersicht.html

Special features regarding the international orientationThe University Medical Centre Mainz has a broad range of Erasmus partnerships (including Italy, France and Spain). The international mobility of students is promoted through regular information and guidance programmes. In addition to inner-European cooperations, the University Medical Centre has a partner faculty in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City), at which training is carried out in accordance with the Mainz curriculum.

Characteristics of diversity advancementThe entry conditions mean that a significant proportion of students are granted a place on the strength of a vocational qualification rather than the high-school leaving qualification (Abitur). Special provisions are made for these groups of students to help them settle into higher education successfully and organise their studies effectively. These provisions are subject-related in the form of a preliminary course and tutorials throughout the semester. Peer elements such as a mentoring programme and advisory services are also available during their studies.
Other special featuresIn the pre-clinical study phase, students spend their time training on the university campus. In the clinical study phase, training is carried out in close proximity to Nursing Care on the grounds of the University Medical Centre Mainz. Learning targets are described in an internet-based learning objective checklist (ILKUM) (including video recordings of lectures).
