Special features regarding teachingA markedly high level of practical relevance with small group and individual lessons under the supervision of a dentist/physician, step-by-step development of practical skills first on the model, then on the patient; above-average range of practical courses (mainly treatment units); high proportion of additional online courses (Virtual University of Bavaria); digitalisation in dentistry; use of virtual reality (VR): Study projects e.g. tooth recognition in virtual space.

Special features regarding research activitiesThe Medical Faculty and the clinic of the LMU are two of the most active university medicine research centres in Europe. The faculty is often the national leader in international research rankings. Dental students are introduced to the ideal image of the clinician scientist who combines the health care provider with the researcher. Main areas of research, e.g. CAD/CAM technology, indiv. implants, osteosynthesis, tissue engineering, materials testing, materials science, biomechanics, virtual reality, caries diagnostics; collaborative projects, international multi-centre studies.
