  • Special features regarding teaching
The highly practical range of courses conveys knowledge about modern molecular, cellular, organismal and population-related research topics. The high quality of teaching, which has won multiple awards, is ensured by: Lehre@LMU: Programme for tutorials and student research; working group on university teaching and teaching evaluations; modern didactic techniques (virtual microscopy, clicker system, online platforms, use of media, e-library) are used; research internships are possible in excellent research networks. The courses are internationally compatible.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Students have exchange opportunities with 115 universities worldwide. In addition, research placements with a number of international cooperation partners are offered. The English-language Master's courses have resulted in a level of internationality of more than 35% in these degree courses. In the ERASMUS + MEME degree course, exchange between the Universities of Uppsala, Groningen, Montpellier, Harvard and Lusanne is institutionalised. Structured doctoral programme in English make it possible to pursue more advanced specialisations.
  • Special features regarding research activities
Research focuses on molecules to cells, cells to organisms, organisms to biodiversity. This is illustrated by collaborative projects: Synthetic biology, Molecular interaction of organisms with their environment, Neural circuits, Biogenesis and evolution. This is complemented by unique methodological and technological know-how: Bioimaging, ultrastructural research, analysis of nucleic acids, proteins, lipids and metabolites. Cooperation partner: Chemistry and Biochemistry, Medicine and Earth Sciences, MPIs Biochemistry, Neurobiology and Ornithology, HelmholtzZentrum München etc.
  • Other special features
The faculty of Biology is part of the ultra-modern Life Science Campus in Großhadern/Martinsried. It offers physical and academic proximity to the faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, to the Biomedical Centre of the faculty of Medicine as well as the university clinics, the Gene Centre of the LMU, the Max Planck Institutes for Biochemistry and Neurobiology, the Helmholtz Centre in Munich as well the Bavarian Innovation Centre (IZB). Due to the special environment of biology at the LMU Munich, contents and specialisations are possible that are not available in this form at any other German location.
