    Research-oriented education; manageable course sizes; open-door policy with professors; close proximity to students, intensive support by tutors; study quality funds to improve teaching, inter-faculty teaching within the framework of the professionalisation area (modules on soft skills, preparation for career and studies); establishment of Career Service; wide range of modules with various focal points; all teaching within walking distance; financially supported 1-2 week excursion to non-European countries.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    Numerous intensive international collaborations (South America, Australia) enable stays abroad; Erasmus programmes; individually plannable research modules with stays abroad are included in the curriculum, uncomplicated recognition of ETCS acquired abroad; research modules / master's theses / international conferences carried out abroad are financially supported; the Master Neuroscience is a completely English-language, international degree course, in which the majority of students now come from abroad.
  • Special features regarding research activities
    Biology in Oldenburg focuses on biodiversity research, navigation research, neurosensory research and hearing research. In addition to numerous individual projects funded by the DFG etc., the research group "Spatial community ecology in highly dynamic landscapes: from island biogeography to metaecosystems [DynaCom]", the SFB "Magnetic reception and navigation in vertebrates: from biophysics to brain and behaviour" and the Cluster of Excellence "Hearing4all" are dedicated to these focal points.

    The Biology teaching unit is jointly run by the Institute of Biology and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Neuroscience.
