Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
Students are already introduced to practical working methods in biology and biochemistry in the first year of their undergraduate studies. In the higher semesters, students can choose from a wide range of offers due to the broad research focus of the faculty.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Students are invited to participate in regular colloquia offered by all disciplines of the faculty, where national and international researchers present their results and are encouraged to take part in the subsequent discussions. In almost all working groups, international staff members are active in the research area and are involved in teaching (lectures, seminars, practical courses, theses). There are international collaborations in most of the working groups.
  • Special features regarding research activities
Collaborative Research Centres and Research Units: Tubular system and interstitium of the kidney: (Patho-)Physiology and Crosstalk (SFB 1350); Molecular mechanisms regulating yield and yield stability in plants (SFB 924); The formation of ribosomes: Fundamentals of RNP biogenesis and control of their function (SFB 960); Regulation and pathology of homeostatic processes of visual function (FG 1075); Research centres: Archaeacentre, Biochemistry-Centre Regensburg (BZR), Regensburg Centre of Neuroscience (RCN), ORBIT project (power-to-gas)
  • Other special features
The faculty is characterised by research-intensive working groups. Faculty in the Bachelor's and Master's degree course conduct research in various areas of biology, biochemistry, and preclinical medicine. Students in the Bachelor's degree course come in the 2nd semester. In the second half of your studies, you will be in direct contact with current, wide-ranging research topics through the research-oriented internships. Students in the Master's degree course complete the modules directly in the working groups. The University of Regensburg is a campus university with short distances between the faculties and to university sports, theatre and music groups, etc.
