  • Special features regarding teaching
    Teaching takes place primarily in the form of seminars and in groups. The aim is to enable students to develop academically-based judgement as an essential basis of their professional practice, using an action-oriented approach. Teaching primarily takes place on two blocked study days a week. 95% of students complete the course in the standard period of study.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    As part of mobility windows during the placement and the writing of the Bachelor's or the Master's thesis, students have the option of doing a stay abroad. As part of this, the Faculty of Healthcare at the KatHO NRW offers individual practice support for students who cannot attend the accompanying courses to the placements due to a study semester abroad or a work placement within Germany. In the degree programme Applied Nursing Science, it is possible to complete a practical semester.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The seminar rooms and lecture theatres are equipped to meet requirements with up-to-date seminar technology (standard package: projectors, whiteboards, etc.). The practical application of and the opportunity to use interactive whiteboards and digital presenters in teaching are currently being tested. Numerous internet and intranet options; WIFI; Internet workplaces; Electronic teaching and learning platform Illias. Reference library with online research/ordering within the library network; All databases are accessible free of charge; Access to software solutions and international journals; Study zones.

  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    For the guidance of students, in each department there is a full-time lecturer dealing with questions regarding students with long-term illnesses and integration, amongst other things. At the moment, about EUR 200,000 is being provided in order to make rooms and technical equipment more accessible.

    Equality as an interdisciplinary tasks in terms of diversity; Objective and long-term task: Family-friendly organisation of studying and work, equality between men and women, equal opportunities. Stakeholders: Central and decentralised – and advisory – equality representative at the university/department level, decentralised working groups for “Equality” and family offices, central senate committee on equality (K 4), key research areas “Gender and transculturality”, “Participation research”, “Education and diversity” and the people in administration tasked with equality responsibilities.
  • Other special features
    The Faculty of Healthcare works with a QM system based on DIN ISO 29990:2010 and works following an electronic QM manual. For the quality assurance of the teaching, there are regular curriculum workshops and QM workshops with the students. Supervision, alumni work, internal /external evaluation.
