  • Special features regarding teaching
    Teaching takes place primarily in the form of seminars and in small groups. The aim is to enable students to develop academically-based judgement as an essential basis of their professional practice as well as education, using an action-oriented approach. Teaching primarily takes place on two blocked study days a week. 95% of students complete the course in the standard period of study. In addition to the student-teacher ratio, didactic diversity with high student activation and good digital equipment are profile characteristics of the department.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    As part of mobility windows during the placement and the writing of the Bachelor's or the Master's thesis, students have the option of doing a stay abroad. As part of this, the Faculty of Healthcare at the KatHO NRW offers individual practice support for students who cannot attend the accompanying courses to the placements due to a study semester abroad or a work placement within Germany. The Applied Nursing Science degree course offers the opportunity to complete an intern-ship semester.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The seminar rooms and lecture theatres are equipped to meet requirements with up-to-date seminar technology (standard package: Projector, whiteboard, etc.) and were further upgraded during the pandemic (see below). Interactive whiteboards and digital presenters are used in teaching. Numerous Internet and Intranet options; WiFi; Internet workstations; electronic teaching/learning platform ILIAS. Reference library with online research/ordering from the library association; all databases are free to access; software solutions and international journal stocks are accessible; areas with study islands.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    "DIP" (Deutsches Institut für angewandte Pflegeforschung e.V., German Institute for Applied Nursing Research) currently (Nov./ Dec. 2019) has 21 projects listed as in progress, with a further 4 completed in the last 3 months. The focus is on projects in nursing education research, health care research and municipal nursing development. Students can be involved in research projects and can be employed as research assistants after graduation. After graduation, they can be employed as research assistants.
  • Other special features
    In addition to the expansion of the functions of ILIAS and the campus portal in the context of digital teaching and learning formats and the possibilities for online video conferencing, all seminar rooms and lecture halls were technically upgraded against the Corona background in order to be able to hold hybrid courses with low attendance and connected students. Opportunities to live stream entire courses.
