Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
The pharmaceutical institute in Tübingen includes all the pharmaceutical disciplines in a single building. This creates an ideal learning environment for students, PhD students and young scientists. The alternative examination procedure in Tübingen means that the 1st state examination is part of the course and the often critically viewed multiple choice exam is not used. The master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies in Tübing offers students the opportunity to specialise in various pharmaceutical disciplines.

  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The international exchange of students is made possible and promoted through Erasmus programmes, as well as in DAAD-funded partnerships with the University of Malawi in Africa and the University of Belgrade. Researchers at the Pharmaceutical Institute are involved in many international research consortia, at the German University in Cairo and the Baden-Württemberg Brazil Centre, in collaboration with the University of California at San Diego, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and several Japanese universities.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
The institute is very well equipped with large devices and has all of the important devices for pharmaceutical research at the institute, e.g. three NMR devices, several LC-MS devices (Triple Quad, Triple-TOF, DC-MS) etc. The institute has outstanding drug manufacturing equipment, such as tablet presses, granulating machines, a facility for extraction with supercritical CO2 etc., which are used intensively in teaching.
  • Website with further information on research activities
  • Support for founders
Members of the institute were successfully involved in spin-offs and/or support them through the TüCADD platform. Examples are CAIR Biosciences GmbH (BioProfile programme of the BMBF) and HepaRegeniX GmbH (venture-financed, including through High Tech Gründerfonds). Prof. Stefan Laufer also has the role of “innovation mentor” in the BMBF’s VIP programme.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
Special arrangements are made for students with permanent health impairments to take part in practical work and examinations and for the use of equipment/devices in practical classes.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
The Pharmaceutical Institute understands diversity to be the basis of scientific excellence and therefore builds its scientific culture on diversity and equal opportunity. The Tübinger Institut has a very high number of foreign students and academics, including through Erasmus programmes, cooperation with the German University Cairo, the Baden-Württembergishes Brasilienzentrum and DAAD-funded partnerships with Malawi/Africa and Serbia. Woman also account for a very high proportion of the students and junior scientists.
  • Other special features
The Tübingen Centre for Continuing Education (TZWW) offers Ph.D. students in pharmacy the opportunity to qualify for a PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology or as a Specialist Pharmacist for Pharmaceutical Analysis. The certificate course ‘Clinical Pharmacy’ offers continuing education in patient-oriented pharmacy. The compulsory elective course ‘Pharmacy in Development Cooperation and Disaster Assistance’ is unique in Germany for state examination and Master students and for licensed pharmacists.
