Special features regarding teachingAttractive and innovative courses of study at the interface of molecular biology and medicine. The broad spectrum of topics from a great many disciplines in biology and medicine is unique within Germany. The master's includes a fast-track Ph.D. option enabling direct entry to the doctoral programme after the first year of the master's. We set ourselves apart with optimal programme organisation and very personal contact with our students. The comparatively low number of students makes it possible to create an informal atmosphere between students and teachers.
-
Special features regarding the international orientationIn addition to the established Erasmus partnerships with universities in Great Britain, Sweden, Spain and France, the joint degree programmes with the Université de Strasbourg courses in human and molecular biology (Bachelor's degree, Master's degree) also offer the option of pursuing a German-French dual degree in the standard period of study. In addition, there is a culture of dealing flexibly with individually organised stays abroad (including New Zealand, USA, Italy) as well as participation in the international graduate college IRTG 1830 with the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada.
-
Special features regarding research activitiesNumerous research and joint projects, some with international participation: Intern. Grad-Kolleg IRTG 1830 Complex Membrane Proteins in Cellular Development and Disease; Priority Program SPP 1710 Dynamics of Thiol-based Redox Switches in Cellular Physiology; SFBs and Research Units: TRR 219 Mechanisms of Cardiovascular Complications in Chronic Kidney Disease, SFB 1027 Physical Modelling of Non-Equilibrium Processes in Biological Systems, SFB 894 Ca2+ Signalling: Molecular Mechanisms and Integrative Functions, SFB 1309 Chemical Biology of Epigenetic Modifications.
