  • Special features regarding teaching
    The aim of the course is to train students to become qualified engineers with a focus on the design of hardware and software systems in line with the requirements of industry and science. The positioning of computer engineering at the interface between general computer science and electrical engineering enables students to pursue a wide range of engineering activities in the field of design and realisation of embedded systems and their system-related programming after successful completion of their studies.

    Four excellently equipped PC pools, pool with real-time signal processing boards, extensive hardware and software development tools (e.g. FPGA development board BASYS 3, zedboard, USB logic analyzer, µC boards, various hardware description languages). Software tools: e.g. MATLAB-Simulink, Visual Studio Prof., VHDL, Java, Xilinx Vivado, Model-Sim, GNU Tool-Chain (close to operating system), KEIL-Tools etc.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    The consecutive master's degree in Embedded Systems and the master's degree in Information Systems offer particularly qualified graduates the opportunity for further academic qualification. There is the possibility of doing a subsequent PhD at the Promotionskolleg college, which is run together with the University of Tübingen.

    The "Gründerwerk - centre for start-ups of the Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences" is the central contact point and network for students interested in founding a company. A special feature is the futureLab, where the development of innovative IT solutions in the areas of web services, apps and Internet of Things are given strong conceptual and technical support.

    Small group sizes, subject-specific advice, good access to professors (weekly office hours per professor without appointment), outstanding equipment, innovative didactic concepts, guided and free project work, interdisciplinary projects with other faculties (design, economics & law), very good industry contacts with local and international companies.
