The organisation of the courses is strongly influenced by the American system and therefore differs significantly from courses at other German universities. In line with the international student body, there is a clear orientation of the graduates towards international companies and master's degrees.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    In addition to the general IT infrastructure, teaching in Computer Science is supported by a Teaching Lab. For the support of courses, Computer Science provides systems for the electronic submission of homework and for online communication between course participants. In addition, Computer Science has a Robotics Laboratory and a 3D visualisation lab which is part of the Laboratory for Analysis, Modelling, and Visualisation (CLAMV).

  • Support for founders
    In the third year, all students can choose the “World Track”. This option enables students to take part in a programme to develop a start-up company. The programme comprises events on topics relating to entrepreneurship especially for innovative start-ups and development of a business idea and a business plan.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    The aim of the university is to make it possible for students with disabilities/chronic illnesses to study at Jacobs University. The contact for students and staff in this case is the "Equal Opportunity Committee" (with equal representation) which offers, among other things, assistance in meeting the needs of students and staff with disabilities and works to represent the interest of minorities and ethnic groups and operates the Counselling Centre. The disadvantage compensation required in accordance with the Bremen Higher Education Act (extended examination periods/standard periods of study) is granted in full.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    The university is English-speaking throughout, which facilitates the integration of students and staff members from different countries. Projects are almost always worked on in groups made up of students and staff members from different countries of origin. The international experience of applicants is explicitly taken into account when making appointments. Care is taken to achieve gender balance on committees.
