Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
Each compulsory course is accompanied by a lecturer throughout the course of several years. This allows the evaluations and student feedback to be systematically incorporated into the further development of the courses, and the courses remain consistent over the years. Large events are supported by the use of online learning platforms, which facilitates communication between students and teachers. Possible inhibitions on the part of the students to ask questions are reduced by this.
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
Université de Nantes, Frankreich; Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spanien; Universidad San Jorge, Zaragoza, Spanien; Universität Basel, Schweiz; Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown, Irland; Göteborgs Universitet, Schweden; Technological Educational Institut of Epirus, Arta, Griechenland; University of Warmia and Mazury, Olsztyn, Polen; Università di Pisa, Italien; Universität Hacettepe, Ankara, Türkei
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Excellent access to high-performance cluster "HILBERT", which can also be used by students for appropriate final theses. Excellent infrastructure for artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.
  • Special features regarding research activities
Strong interdisciplinary orientation in research, e.g. through the participation of bioinformatics in the biology excellence cluster; through intensive cooperation with the social sciences at the "Düsseldorf Institute for Internet and Democracy" (with a focus on digital democracy) and the "Leibniz Institute for Social Sciences" in Cologne; close cooperation with medicine in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence; joint professorships with the Jülich Research Centre in data science and machine learning.
  • Support for founders
A professorship for practice-oriented start-up teaching is currently being established. Support by DIWA GmbH, a joint technology transfer agency of Heinrich Heine University and the state capital Düsseldorf. The aim of DIWA is to support start-ups from science, to intensify cooperation between science and industry and to strengthen Düsseldorf as a location for science and technology.
  • Other special features
Establishment of a group of staff members who, with special focus and didactic training, are dedicated to the development and monitoring of basic teaching. In the course of this development, a programme for the early detection of problems and for the support of weak students will be established.
