Special features regarding teachingThe course of studies Applied Computer Science is offered at the Ruhr-Uni Bochum by the Institute of Neuroinformatics. However, numerous other teaching units are involved in the teaching: Mathematics, philology, economics, industrial science, electrical engineering and information technology, mechanical engineering, environmental and civil engineering, biology and medicine. In the events, the AI students test the exchange across disciplinary boundaries. Study projects are sometimes carried out in interdisciplinary teams, e.g. together with students of social science.

Special features regarding the equipmentModern large CIP pools used in teaching; for research (study and final theses) there are, for example, humanoid robotic arms and an agile stereo-camera system; modern presenting lab with approx. 5m large interactive screen; 3D "Virtual Reality Setup" for engineering applications.

Special features regarding research activitiesResearch projects of the lecturers are generally at the interface of between Computer Science and other disciplines such as Biology, Linguistics, Economics and Engineering Sciences. Students therefore gain a good insight into foreign disciplines and acquire special skills in the communication between various scientific cultures.

Support for foundersOur students have the opportunity to take courses on "Business Start-Up", "Business Plan Preparation", "Experiencing Uncertainty and Coping Strategies in an Entrepreneurial Context" and "Patent Law" as a non-technical elective (in the Bachelor's degree) or free elective (in the Master's degree).
