    Currently the only device in Germany for "Quantitative Evaluation of Minerals by Scanning Electron Microscopy" (QEMSCAN®); cryo-electron microscope for fluid specimens to temperatures of -150°C; scientific operation of neutron single-crystal diffractometer HEiDi and POLI at the Research Neutron Source FRM II in Munich; environmental chemistry and petrophysical laboratories; high-resolution LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) for geoscience measuring; extensive field measuring equipment in all disciplines and PC laboratories with modern simulation tools.

    Profiling in the field of "Geo resources"; extensive expertise in the field of Modelling and Simulation, combined with the Engineering disciplines; one of the strongest research university groupings in Western Europe in the Geoscience-related aspects of energy research; strong emphasis on natural gas and oil, coal and geothermal energy and CO2 storage; research on the use of subterranean areas and georisks with strong links to the Engineering Sciences
