  • Special features regarding teaching
    The Geosciences of the Universität Bayreuth offer both research and practice-based teaching in four complementary courses (B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Geo-Ecology, MSc in Global Change Ecology, MSc in Experimental Geosciences). These are oriented in an inter-disciplinary way and deal with both regional and global environmental systems. To complement this, the supplementary studies in Environmental Law will start in the winter semester 2014/2015. Through this graduates are to be able to contribute to complete solutions for environmental problems. The supervision in all courses of study is outstandingly good.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    Through explicitly international courses of study, with the exclusive language of instruction being English, there is a wide range of courses in English. As a result, many international students come to Bayreuth. English-language specialist library and internships abroad promote the international orientation.

    The BayCEER has equipment for the recording of climate data (measuring pillars), for chemical analysis, a laboratory for isotope biogeochemistry, as well as open land for experimental biodiversity research (www.bayceer.de). In the MSc Experimental Geosciences, the full range of scientific equipment for high-pressure synthesis and analysis is available (see list under research on the page www.bgi.uni-bayreuth.de).

    Through the addition of the counselling office for students with disabilities and chronic health problems (becks), the counselling and support services for students have been expanded comprehensively since 2015. It offers support with study problems and challenges, information on legal claims, reasonable adjustments and funding opportunities. becks is also committed to providing accessibility not only to buildings and premises but also of teaching content, raising awareness among university staff, reasonable adjustments, assistive devices/technology and personal assistance

    Cooperation with UBT facilities for diversity, internationalisation, equal opportunity, inclusion, families; target agreement for achieving gender equality; steps to increase the percentage of women, coaching and mentoring for female junior scientists; support of the UBT network Gender, Queer, Intersectionality and Diversity Studies; gender consulting for external funding applications; structural accessibility; high percentage of foreign staff members; Cooperation with the coordination office for STEM subjects and expanding the STEM network.
