  • Special features regarding teaching
The wide professional spread of the Freiberg geosciences - including a large spectrum of geotechnical expertise - allows students to pursue very diverse interests on site and to educate themselves individually. The teaching ethics of most faculties are very high; in appointments, students have a strong voice in evaluating the teaching ability and attractiveness of future female professors and thus help influence the appointment decision. Online teaching (pandemic) was engaged and successfully used.
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
NTNU Trondheim, Norwegen; Eötvös Loránd Universität, Ungarn; Universität Oulu, Finnland; Czech Technical University, Tschechien; Akademia Górniczo-Hutnicza Krakow, Polen
  • Special features regarding the equipment
3D modelling software (e.g. GOCAD), Ar-Ar-,U-Pb-, thermo-geochronology, rock preparation and mineral separation; thin- and ground section preparation; water and soil chemical analysis; X-ray diffraction; microprobe; MLA; TIMS; very extensive analytical geochemical laboratories (EA, IC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, TXRF, WD-XRF); digital image analysis; differential GPS.
  • Special features regarding research activities
Students are involved early on in real-world projects. Terrain-oriented work (also international); inclusion of drilling cores (documentation); 3D modelling; industrial cooperation; cooperation with international university partners; high-level laboratory research; multi-disciplinary geoscientific methodology (atmosphere - soil - water - deep underground - mineral resources).
  • Other special features
Experimental areas on campus (hydrological and hydrogeological measuring field, meteorological station; geophysical measuring field); research and teaching mine with underground laboratories and experimental rooms; online seismology station for geophysics in Berggießhübel (base station of the worldwide seismological monitoring system); research station for geoecology in Oberbärenburg (soil and ecosystem and atmospheric research).
