    Rock laboratory with triaxial press and Split-Hopkinson Bar for determination of static and dynamic rock strength; analogue lab; light microscopy lab; laboratory for OSL dating; thermoluminescence lab; scanning electron microscopy; white-light interferometry; X-ray fluorescence and atom absorption spectroscopy; microprobe; Water Chemistry laboratory; X-ray diffractometry; rock sample preparation; powder diffractometry; Laue goniometer; various furnaces (FMF, Bridgman, mirror furnace, dual zone furnace); thermoanalysis; particle analysis procedures; field equipment (GPS, soil sampler, geoelectric systems, radar, seismics).

    Geosciences in Freiburg have a strong research tradition. Thematic key areas and unique features are in the field of Impact Geology/Planetary Geology, Quaternary Geology and Geochronology, Mathematical Geosciences, Crystal Growing and Materials Sciences as well as in the field of Geochemistry and Petrology. The Geosciences are members of the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources. This results in particular potential in the area of Environmental Science. The Geosciences are closely linked with various Fraunhofer institutes due to cooperations.
