Special features regarding the equipmentNumerous fully equipped modern laboratories, e.g. micro X-ray fluorescence scanner, electron beam microprobe, transmission electron microscope, diffractometer, mass spectrometry, atomic force microscope, Raman spectroscopy, various microscopes, electron microscope, hydrogeochemical laboratories, geodynamic observatory with superconducting gravimeter, extensive mineralogical collection, sediment laboratory, rock preparation laboratory, computer pool. The AquaDiva project provides an extensive and excellently equipped "outdoor laboratory".
Special features regarding research activitiesFluid dynamics, heat and mass transport in sedimentary basins; biogeolab "Thuringian Basin", nano-(bio)geosciences at the interface geology-biology-physics-chemistry; geo- and pedopotentials, georisks, (bio)geothermal energy, biomineralogy. Nuclear disposal and fluid motion at the nanoscale. Global mountain building and alpine tectonics; paleoseismology. Surface processes of the early Earth and dispersal of the first life forms.
