  • Special features regarding teaching
    The courses on offer consist of two Bachelor's and four Master's degrees, which supplement the teaching of basic principles by representing the broad expertise of the Institute for Geosciences. For the disciplines of Geology, Mineralogy and Geophysics, the Institute maintains a key marine- and application-oriented focus. Close collaboration is also maintained with the Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel.

    The technical equipment available to the Institute for Geosciences is comprehensive, ranging from large-format equipment such as high-pressure/high-temperature reactors or the electron beam microprobe through to scanning electron microscopy and extensive lab equipment, plus a wide range of fieldwork equipment for field- and marine-based use.
  • Special features regarding research activities
    The Institute's research activities range across the fields of Marine Geosciences and Palaeontology; Physics and Chemistry of Minerals; Applied Geosciences and Geophysics. Marine and applied issues provide a primary focus here. Research is also strongly networked with a wide range of research projects at national and international level.
