    Coverage of all areas of geography, specialisation in human or physical geography or human-environment relations; profile formation through a broad selection of subsidiary subjects and extracurricular competences (languages; extensive methodological training (GIS/remote sensing, laboratory analysis, statistics, empirical social research); all seminars are held in manageable course groups, project seminars, wide range of options within the Bachelor's degree course, teaching across modules, use of the university's own research and teaching area, research-based learning, excursion abroad.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The Geography department is located in two historic buildings next door to each other. This means short distances and minimal time lost. All infrastructure facilities are also housed in these buildings: 80 computer workstations for students, labs (environmental IT, environmental analysis, GIS, modelling, remote sensing, social research, herbarium). Modern equipment collection, class sets of tablets, drones for micro remote sensing, economic geography databases, teaching rooms with up-to-date presentation technology, uni-owned research/teaching area, university library within sight.
  • Special features regarding research activities
    The overarching goal of our direction is the researching of the "Human Dimension of Global Change". The unique feature of our discipline is its bridging function between the Natural Sciences and Cultural Studies. Key research areas include Mountain Ecology, Biodiversity Research, Desertification, Innovation and Knowledge Processes, Globalisation Processes, Regional Innovation Systems, Urban Development Processes, Time and Space Dynamics of Clouds, Mist and Precipitation Events and Environmental Modelling.
