    Joint bachelor's degree courses of the LMU with the TUM at the Munich GeoCenter. Four different International Master's degree courses with theoretical and applied instruction using cutting-edge new technologies in the geosciences such as RAMAN, ion microprobe, and high-throughput DNA sequencing.

    In the Geosciences, there is a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art analytical, experimental and technical laboratories available: Laboratories for Molecular Geobiology and Palaeobiology, labs for the characterisation of geomaterials in terms of chemistry, isotope chemistry, mineralogy, cristallography and structure, labs for Experimental Vulcanology, crystal growth laboratory, strong acid lab, computer labs, high-performance computers, preparation lab as well as modern technical equipment for Tectonic Geodesy and two Geophysics Observatories (Geomagnetism and Seismology).
  • Special features regarding research activities
    Research interests: geoscientific aspects of geohazards (e.g. earthquakes, volcanic eruptions) and associated processes in the Earth's interior, Earth's paleomagnetic field, global matter cycles, Earth surface processes, evolution of marine organisms, climate evolution, biomineralisation, geochronology, growth of crystals, resource geology. Collaborations: Geophysical observatories, GeoBio-Centre, Munich GeoCentre; excellent connections to the Bavarian State Collections, the Leibnitz Computing Centre, the Aerospace Research Centre, the Academy of Sciences.

    Munich GeoCenter: joint research and teaching at two universities the LMU and the TU Munich as well as joint seminar "Frontiers in Earth Sciences" with external, international guest speakers from the fields of research and industry; Geoscience Faculty: Department of Geo and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Geography; participation in the LMU "Multiplikatorenprogramm" (Multiplier Programme): Inspire teaching – teaching with competence; Massive Open Online Course, topic: Volcanic Eruptions – A Material Science; Prof. Dr. Dingwell; study and degree offering in teaching.
