    The field exercises that are offered mainly take place abroad (e.g. European Alps, Greece, USA, Namibia). All four earth science master's degrees at the LMU (geology, geophysics, MAMSELF/geomaterials and geochemistry, geo- and palaeobiology) are international and taught in English. There are various Erasmus exchange programmes and partnerships in place. The research partnerships at the department for geo- and environmental sciences have an international orientation.

    In the Geosciences, there is a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art analytical, experimental and technical laboratories available: Laboratories for Molecular Geobiology and Palaeobiology, labs for the characterisation of geomaterials in terms of chemistry, isotope chemistry, mineralogy, cristallography and structure, labs for Experimental Vulcanology, crystal growth laboratory, strong acid lab, computer labs, high-performance computers, preparation lab as well as modern technical equipment for Tectonic Geodesy and two Geophysics Observatories (Geomagnetism and Seismology).

  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    The LMU Mentoring programme operated by the Faculty of Geosciences is a concept to support and promote young scientists; while specifically targeting the advancement of women, it also covers other dimensions of diversity and inclusion. LMU Munich also has a contact office for equality and inclusion.
