Special features regarding teachingThe course combines perspectives and methods from the natural and social sciences. Good staffing and equipment allows for a scientifically demanding and practice-oriented education. The course includes practical exercises, field work and excursions and covers the areas of physical geography/geoecology, anthropogeography, didactics of geography as well as regional geography - from regional and global perspectives to local case studies. Specialisation in structures and developments of rural areas is possible.

Special features regarding research activitiesThe Institute for Structural Research and Planning in Intensive Agricultural Areas studies regions with intensive agriculture and develops practice-oriented proposals for solutions. In the department Learning in Rural Areas, the potentials of rural areas for the realisation of lifelong learning processes are investigated. Physical geography applies a wide range of methods: Field and laboratory measurement methods, use of earth observation techniques and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Landscape Ecology conducts environmental monitoring on pollutants, microplastics and GMOs.
