Special features regarding teachingThe diversity of geographical sub-disciplines, which are taught by experts from practice, non-university research institutions and foreign universities, are a special feature of the department. One of the focal points is on methodological diversity and the link between methodological training and human-environment research in the context of learning through research. Students can also gain practical experience during the practicals.
Special features regarding the international orientationThe institute employs a large number of international colleagues and maintains intensive international contacts. The conversion of the Master’s in Global Change Geography to English is a central measure of the internationalisation of teaching. Renowned international experts are also involved in the review of dissertations and professorial teaching qualifications. Members of the institute are advisory council members or members of renowned organisations such as NASA or IARTEM.

Support for foundersThe award-winning start-up "Green Adapt" (https://www.greenadapt.de/de/home/) for adjusting to climate change was founded and turned into a company by graduates of the HU.
