  • Special features regarding teaching
    The diversity of geographical sub-disciplines, which are taught by experts from practice, non-university research institutions and foreign universities, are a special feature of the department. One of the focal points is on methodological diversity and the link between methodological training and human-environment research in the context of learning through research. Students can also gain practical experience during the practicals.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    The institute employs a large number of international colleagues and maintains intensive international contacts. The conversion of the Master’s in Global Change Geography to English is a central measure of the internationalisation of teaching. Renowned international experts are also involved in the review of dissertations and professorial teaching qualifications. Members of the institute are advisory council members or members of renowned organisations such as NASA or IARTEM.

    Facilities include: Humboldt weather station Berlin-Adlershof: Continuous measurement of weather, soil and air quality in the measuring garden and on the roof of the institute; Wide range of climate measurement technology; Computer cluster with over 160 processors and more than 200 TB memory space (climate geography, geomatics); Pedology-hydrological-air analysis teaching and learning laboratory; Historical rock collection; Historical map, aerial photo and photo collection with approximately 100,000 entries from the 19th - to 21th century; Remote sensing spectrometry laboratory; Drone with multispectral and thermal camera
  • Support for founders
    The award-winning start-up "Green Adapt" (https://www.greenadapt.de/de/home/) for adjusting to climate change was founded and turned into a company by graduates of the HU.
