Special features regarding teachingThe teaching has a strong research focus due to the active involvement of students in many research projects and has been assessed as above average by the students. Due to the manageable size of the department, close contact between students and lecturers is ensured. As part of the mentoring programme, each student is supported in the content specialisation of the course by a professor. Tutors provide support for effective learning in small exercise groups. Modules in other fields enable students to broaden their horizons.
Special features regarding the international orientationThe Department of Computer Science and Information Science is characterised by its high degree of internationality, from the student level to research. We offer our students a wide range of exchange options for study or internships abroad, as well as excellent support and a wide range of services for our international students on site. Due to the great flexibility in designing the specialisation study programme for the Bachelor’s degree programmes and the Master’s degree programme, academic achievements that have been completed abroad can be recognised well.

Special features regarding the equipmentWith the "Powerwall" the department has one of the most modern large-scale projection systems in Europe with a presentation area of 5.20 m x 2.15 m. This opens up entirely new perspectives in the field of visual data exploration. The "Media Room" offers a research environment for the design, development and evaluation of new interaction technologies, input devices and the simulation of future working environments. "e-David", a painting industrial robot for creativity research, and the "Powerbike", a racing bike simulator for the precise simulation for outdoor training, are additional special features.
Support for foundersThe University of Konstanz has an advisory service for start-ups, which supports students and scientists with spin-offs. The University of Konstanz can also offer financial support in the form of transfer platforms. There are also contact networks to support founders, such as Campus Startup Konstanz or cyberLAGO, which offer events and opportunities for exchange on business start-ups. KNIME GmbH, Vidatics GmbH and BaseX Gmbh are examples of successful spin-offs from the Department of Computer and Information Science.
Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsThe University of Konstanz has set out to dismantle barriers and optimise the study conditions for students with disabilities and/or chronic conditions. The following central contact persons are available to assist and support you: https://www.uni-konstanz.de/gleichstellungsreferat/diversity/programme-und-massnahmen-fuer-studierende/studieren-in-besonderen-lebenslagen/beeintraechtigung/ ; In the Department of Computer and Information Science, we are also happy to provide individual guidance on programme organisation and opportunities for reasonable adjustments.
Characteristics of diversity advancementThe University of Konstanz is diverse; it promotes diversity and sets out to facilitate study, research and working conditions in which each and every individual can experience optimal development and growth. The university is currently taking part in the diversity audit to further optimise conditions in this respect. As part of the IQF project on developing diversity at the university (“Wege zu einer Diversity-gerechten Hochschule”), the Department of Computer and Information Science developed sustainable diversity initiatives for the target group of international full-time students.
Other special featuresThe four-year Bachelor's degree course in Computer Science (BSc) offers an integrated practical semester or semester abroad and thus provides optimum preparation for the English-language Master's degree course and professional work. The Master's degree "Computer and Information Science" will be offered in one-year and two-year variants. In the Master's course and in the Bachelor's course in Computer Science, it is possible to start studying in the winter semester and the summer semester.
