  • Special features regarding teaching
    Teaching in the department is characterised by a combination of knowledge transfer and application. Wherever it makes sense from a didactic point of view, the lecturers support their classroom teaching with digital offerings. During the course of study, the proportion of self-determined learning increases continuously through elective and in-depth options as well as projects. The lecturers have extensive professional experience outside the university and remain in contact with practice, e.g. in the form of cooperative research projects, supervision of practical semesters and the "Media Forum" for the exchange of information in lectures.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The faculty has a new building with modern information and media technology equipment. The technical equipment includes lecture halls with interactive tablets and multi-projectors, studios for video and sound technology as well as virtuality (Blue Box), laboratories for various fields of work in media informatics and media technology, including touch screens, server operation, PC pools and other learning and work rooms for students. In surveys, students attest that the faculty is well equipped.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    The faculty works on applied research projects in the field of human-technology interaction, such as digital teaching and learning support, virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR/MR), and support for the everyday lives of older people - with funding from public and private sources. The faculty is involved in the state priority projects to develop socio-technical solutions for people with dementia and positive futures. In the LivingLab, the university is conducting research together with industrial companies in the field of VR/AR technology.
  • Support for founders
    Through close cooperation with economic, charitable and cultural partners in projects, practical semesters and final theses, there are numerous activities in the direction of self-employment and foundation. Depending on their needs, prospective company founders receive individual support from professors. There are spin-offs in the fields of web development, real-time 3D and 3D scanning. The department is also involved in start-up activities, e.g. the Düsseldorf Start-Up Week.
