Special features regarding teachingSmall groups and a high percentage of permanently employed staff are characteristics of our institution. This enables a very individual student supervision and support. On average only 30 to 35 students are admitted per year study group, with most of the seminars and tutorials consisting of smaller groups. This is why increasingly more modern teaching methods such as project work, coaching, simulation etc. are implemented. There are close links with local industry, whose requirements are continuously input in the development of the courses of study. Networking also takes place through work placements and joint events.
Exchange universities for stay abroadsHogeschool van Amsterdam, Niederlande; Hogeschool van Arnhem and Nijmegen, Niederlande; Brno University of Technology, Tschechien; Lapland University of Applied Sciences, Finnland; Universitat Politècnica de València, Spanien; Lodz University of Technology, Polen; National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taiwan
Special features regarding the equipment24/7 access, WiFi throughout the building; exclusive laboratories for the Computer Science courses (network laboratory, database laboratory, laboratory for distributed systems, laboratory for Software Engineering (approx. 60 laboratory workplaces and 40 laptop workstations for 180 students); well-equipped with current PCs; mobile devices; development boards for embedded systems, etc.; in combination with other courses Mac Pools and CAD/Graphics workplaces are also available; students may also use the technical facilities for their own projects (Open Labs).
Special features regarding research and developmentThe computer science programs are in close cooperation with four of the six research centres (User-centred Technologies, Business Informatics, Digital Factory, Energy) through the assignment of lecturers and the collaboration of students in research projects. In this way, students can get involved in the development of AR/VR projects, in the exploration of research questions in the simulation and optimisation area, as well as in the ongoing further development (in some cases new development and reconstruction) of the digital factory.
Support for foundersThe startupstube at the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences brings together students of different disciplines and helps them during the start-up process. It gives a nudge. It offers people interested in starting a company as well as innovators leeway for entrepreneurial development and inspiration, creates proximity to the regional and international innovation ecosystem and promotes exchange with like-minded people.
Other special featuresThe European Commission has awarded the FH Vorarlberg the Diploma Supplement Label (2010-2016) and the ECTS Label (2011-2014). The homepage of the FH Vorarlberg corresponds to the ECTS Users Guide; all the degree courses and also each individual course are described on the web completely in German and English.
