Special features regarding teachingThe teaching in the B.Sc. and M. Sc. stringently follows the principle of research-based learning. In the strongly practice-oriented teaching, there is close communication between lecturers and students, which ensures the best possible transfer of knowledge to target groups such as school sport and competitive, leisure and health sport. An outstanding example of our practical orientation in teaching is the regularly offered project Sports Management, in which students apply this knowledge directly in joint projects in companies/clubs after a theoretical part.

Special features regarding the equipmentThe equipment of the sports facilities meets the latest requirements and permits teaching and practice-relevant research at the highest level. Sports equipment and audiovisual media, such as music equipment, projectors, ceiling cameras, VR lab, etc., are always adapted to current requirements and expanded as needed. All facilities can be used for competitions in accordance with association guidelines and for presentation events. Seminar rooms which are equipped with state-of-the-art technology are attached to the facilities and support the close linking of theory and practice, which characterises Sports Science in Bochum.
Sport facilitiesThe excellent condition of all university-wide sports facilities is regularly used by squad and track athletes for their individual training (without age limits). For this purpose, the faculty provides free training times. As a "partner university of top-class sport", the university sports department also supports around 50 top-class RUB athletes in combining sport and study in various disciplines and provides organisational and financial support (e.g. top-class sports scholarships) for students to take part in university competitions.
Special features regarding research activitiesSports Science has a broad inter-disciplinary structure and is home to a good balance of both Humanities and Social Science disciplines as well as Medical Scientific disciplines. Within the research, questions are taken from practical sports and health-oriented fields of action and explored within the sub-disciplines starting from basic research through to the application in the context of sport/movement. State-of-the-art labs with the latest measurement technologies enable students to apply innovative methods (e.g. Hypoxielab, MoveLab, Isokinetics).
Support for foundersThe MA programme Management & Consulting in Sport includes a number of events around the topic of self-employment, which facilitate the start of one's own self-employment. In addition, the RUB offers students of all disciplines an advisory service on starting a business in the form of the Career Service. Furthermore, the GründerCampus Ruhr - a joint project of the RUB, Bochum University of Applied Sciences, rubitec GmbH and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry - supports prospective entrepreneurs from Bochum's two major universities on their way to entrepreneurial independence.
Other special featuresAt regular intervals, national and international conferences and congresses are organised at the Faculty of Sports Science. The faculty also achieves particularly good experiences and results through the provision of internships for pupils/students. There is also traditionally an excellent relationship between students and teachers. Furthermore, the Bochum location has an extremely active student council, which means that the students' concerns can be directly incorporated into the course design and are gladly taken up by the faculty.
