  • Special features regarding teaching
    The DSHS Cologne is the only German standard university for the area of Sport, Movement and Physical Activity. The current sports programme includes five Bachelor's and nine Master's courses of study, Teaching Qualification degree courses in the subject of Sport for all types of school, as well as an Educational Studies course, six Master's courses and a structured PhD programme. The teaching qualification has also been converted to the staggered study system.

    Unique sports facilities which can be used in their complexity and equipment, both in terms of teaching as well as in research or for the free use by students privately or within the scope of the self-study courses; individual modules such as running tracks, walls, etc., are individually controllable to support detailed aspects; examples: Outdoor athletics stadium with an additional running track with biomechanical measuring stations, indoor athletics centre with height-adjustable running track, 50-m swimming pool with video crane rail or diving tower with underwater video observation window

    Research is focussed on sport and movement as an overall point of reference with the guiding themes: Performance (recording, evaluation and control of physical, mental and inter-personal performance), health (physical, psychological and social aspects of well-being and age-appropriate functional ability), society (analysis of the development and control of sport-related social structures and action, and the associated effects), education (research and teaching of aspects of normative, develop personality, educational and representational)
  • Support for founders
    Students, graduates and scientists interested in founding a company are advised and supported by the Research and Young Scientists Department. The Department of Research and Young Academics advises and supports students, graduates and academics interested in setting up a business. The department works closely with the hochschulgründernetz cologne (hhgnc e.V.), which advises students, graduates and employees of Cologne's universities on all aspects of business start-ups (start-up advice/coaching, qualification programmes on start-up-related topics, funding advice and support).
  • Other special features
    Within scholarships awarded by the university, there is a category for students with a disability. Currently, six students with physical disabilities receive such scholarships. The university has its own counselling and support service for students with mental illnesses. The university is currently developing a health management system for students with the involvement of the AStA.
