Special features regarding teachingPerformance – Responsibility – Fairness: These are the essential values towards which all activities of the HSBA are oriented. The degree courses are based on industry requirements and offer excellent career opportunities. Our graduates have up-to-date knowledge of Business Administration with a focus on specific sectors or functions and are qualified to take on immediate responsibility within a company. All degree courses are accredited by the FIBAA and as a state-approved university, the HSBA is accredited as an institution by the Science Council.
Special features regarding the international orientationThe HSBA offers a large number of its programmes in English, allowing students to improve their foreign language skills on a continuous basis. The Master’s programmes have a high percentage of international students. HSBA students can spend a semester abroad or attend summer school at a (partner) university in Europe or around the world. A study excursion abroad is part of the curriculum for a large number of the programmes. Internationalism matters to the HSBA also in its teaching, which is why international visiting assistant professors are invited regularly.
Common partner universities for exchangeHaaga Helia University of Applied Sciences Helsinki, Finland; Novancia Business School Paris, France; Zagreb School of Economics and Management, Croatia; BI Norwegian Business School, Oslo, Norway; Warsaw School of Economics, Poland; IAE Business School Buenos Aires, Argentina; Hang Seng Management College, Hongkong, China; Solbridge International School of Business, South Korea; German-Turkish College in Istanbul
Special features regarding the equipmentThe Commerzbibliothek of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce is also the university library of the HSBA. The library has a total of around 200,000 media, among them numerous electronic media and databases, such as DBIS, EBSCO, Kompass, Statista and WISO. The modern seminar rooms are equipped with smartboards, and all university members use the learning and communication platform “HSBA Connect”. Students can always keep track of their schedules and data via the university’s own smartphone app.
Special features regarding research and developmentResearch at the HSBA is application-oriented, intended to cover the Hamburg campus and bring academia and industry together. Teaching and research are closely interlinked. Contents and methods from research projects are incorporated into academic teaching, meaning current research results are directly implemented in students' education. Similarly, teaching gives rise to ideas and issues for specific research projects, and our research covers issues relevant to the field as well as offering solutions to current issues. 1 cooperative doctorate in the period 2013-2015.

Support for foundersThe students’ Entrepreneurs’ Club regularly invites entrepreneurs and particularly emphasises the topic of entrepreneurship at corporations (intrapreneurship). The HSBA supports companies in the further development and maintenance of competitiveness. One example of this is the DI-Lab@HSBA, a creative space where companies and HSBA professors look for new business models and solutions in order to utilise digitalisation for their benefit.
Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsOne major strength of our small university lies in finding individual solutions for unusual challenges. Students with health problems are most welcome here, and we do everything possible to make studying at the HSBA accessible to them.
Characteristics of diversity advancementIn December 2008, the HSBA signed the Diversity Charter, thus signalling to the outside world the high value that our university attaches to equality, openness and tolerance.
