Special features regarding teachingInter-disciplinary training: Natural scientists (biologists, chemists, biochemists, physicists), medical doctors, mathematicians and computer scientists teach; events of the 1st semester are interdisciplinary with students from other degree courses, also in exercises; 40% practice in all areas; teaching staff in the 3rd year comes from research institutions and the biotech industry in the vicinity, which means early contact with future employers; bachelor thesis also possible at the university hospital and outside; interdisciplinary courses (economics, ethics, etc.).

Special features regarding the international orientationThe block placements (2 x 3 months) can be carried out at universities, research institutions and industrial companies in Germany and abroad. 45% are carried out abroad. Many cooperations with universities abroad exist; Erasmus programme with many European countries; Promos programs are used; partner universities are available worldwide.

Special features regarding research activitiesCentre for Infection and Inflammation Lübeck (ZIEL); Centre for Medical Structural and Cell Biology (ZMSZ); CCIM (Centre for Comprehensive Inflammation Medicine); Centre for Brain, Behaviour and Metabolism (CBBM); DZD - German Centre for Diabetes Research; Fraunhofer Institution for Marine Biotechnology (EMB), Research Centre Borstel, Leibniz Lung Centre (FZB); ELISA: Largest north German study on the spread of corona virus in the population.
