  • Special features regarding teaching
    During teaching, sound basic training is combined with several elective options. There is a combination of contents from Computer Science, Business Informatics and Business Administration, with a focus on sound practical training in Computer Science. Wide range of options, both in the subject-specific field, e.g. across all fields of Computer Science and Business Informatics, as well as the inter-disciplinary area of professionalisation, e.g. through soft skills or choice of languages.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    Participation in numerous international projects; numerous partnerships and cooperation agreements with universities around the world; positive attitude to stay abroad while studying; recognition of proof of achievement acquired abroad; degree course of international students as ERASMUS / exchange students in Oldenburg; support from tutors of the International Student Office; offer of German courses.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    Students can make use of the technical equipment from both the Business Informatics and Computer Science departments as well as the computer centre at the university. Business Informatics offers two laboratories for training in VLBA (Informatics) and for training in System Development and System Optimisation. Computer Science provides computer rooms as well as Software and Network Infrastructure. The university offers further infrastructure (e.g. WiFi), central registration systems (campus management, learning management system, etc.), free research on various databases and access to numerous digital journals.
  • Special features regarding research activities
    The research activities are thematically divided into the application areas of Health, Energy and Transport and are characterised by close cooperation with the IT institute OFFIS, which is supported by the IT professors. Aspects of modelling, creation and optimisation of safety-critical systems, maritime application systems, business intelligence, energy informatics and sustainability are dealt with.
  • Support for founders
    The University of Oldenburg offers a central point of contact for prospective entrepreneurs at the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre. It offers professional advice, including on funding, coaching and qualification, such as start-up mentoring. The Centre is supplemented by the Chair of Entrepreneurship and the junior professorship Female Entrepreneurship. The University of Oldenburg is one of the top six entrepreneur universities in Germany. The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology awarded it this title in 2011 at the EXIST Culture of Entrepreneurship – Entrepreneur University competition.
  • Other special features
    In cooperation with SAP University Alliances and SAP Education, students are given an opportunity to participate in SAP courses and SAP certifications. Here, students can acquire expertise in the field of Enterprise Resource Planning and gain practical experience with the SAP system for their subsequent professional careers. Knowing how to use SAP software products is deemed a valuable skill in the labour market and allows students to boost their career opportunities.
