Special features regarding teachingA classical training in Business Administration may no longer be sufficient to qualify students in many cases. Now – and even more so in the future – there is great demand for the ability to look at the wider picture in Business Administration, to develop sustainable solutions and to possess inter-disciplinary expertise for handling economic issues. We provide our students with a blend of different Business Administration subjects, together with economic and ecological knowledge, to help them on the way towards a promising future.

Special features regarding the international orientationSince WS 06/07 cooperation with the Japanese Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (Dual Degree - IMAT) since 2010: International study semester "Principles of Sustainable Business" (exchange programme for students from: partner universities; already recognised twice by UNESCO); 2012: Cooperation with the University of California, San Diego (semester abroad); Since 2013: Cooperation with Alliant International University, San Diego (semester abroad or double degree); since WS 17/18: English-speaking, international and interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree in "Sustainable Business and Technology".

Special features regarding the equipmentTo make sure that learning is also fun, we pay careful attention not just to exciting content, but also to everything else. This applies especially for seminars, who sensitise managers in issues relating to Sustainable Economics. To ensure concentrated learning and discussions, we offer groups an extremely wide range of seminar rooms with a pleasant atmosphere. Naturally, they are all equipped with the latest technology. The university library has a wide range of relevant specialist literature and up-to-date online databases.

Special features regarding research and developmentIn our guidelines for applied research on the environment campus, we promote the thematic focus on questions concerning the material cycle and sustainable development. In addition, we attach great importance to the linking of research and teaching with the participation of students in research projects. The research area on the Birkenfeld environment campus is very spacious, with an area of approximately 4,000 m². The amount of the funds gathered every year from third parties is impressive: the total scope on the environment campus already far exceeds the 5 million euro mark.
-
Support for foundersStart-up office on the Environment Campus: This includes the teaching of basic knowledge about start-ups, as well as the design of the start-up process, including funding advice and post-start-up support, company management support. The key areas of support are set individually, depending on the requirements of the potential entrepreneurs. Support relies on a broad network of competence partners, such as economic development agencies, continuing education institutions, banks and many companies and coaches.
-
Other special featuresWe pass on our wide experience – not only to our students, but also to interested parties from all subject areas. Therefore, we offer everyone the possibility of an initial insight into the academic studies at the environment campus: our taster courses. In 2010, the environmental campus took 2nd place as Germany's greenest university in the comprehensive ranking of universities of Utopia GmbH and in 2012 was ranked in 1st place. In the GreenMetric Ranking, UCB 2017 was the only university in Germany to be among the top ten (10th place); in 2018 place 6 was achieved.
