  • Special features regarding teaching
    Application-oriented courses combined with a number of laboratory practicals as well as industry-related or highly practical course work. The course includes many mentoring programmes, especially for female engineering students, i.e. programmes in the initial study phase and coaching later on by engineers with professional experience. There is also a practical project called "Running Snail Racing Team" in which an interdisciplinary team of students and professors participates in the Formula Student competition.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    The faculty of Mechanical Engineering/Environmental Engineering has partnerships and research projects with the University of West Bohemia, Pilsen. In addition, a double-degree agreement was concluded with the Finnish Novia University of Applied Sciences in Vaasa. In addition, there is collaboration with 27 international companies in the form of a Partner Circle and Innovative Learning Centres have been established, e.g. in India.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The faculty of Mechanical Engineering/Environmental Engineering ha state-of-the-art laboratory equipment s in its approx. 30 laboratories (e.g.competence centre for cogeneration Fluid Engineering with wind tunnel, Renewable Energy Systems, Environmental Analysis, Recycling Technology, etc.). This makes practically oriented, up-to-date student training possible. The equipment in the laboratories is continuously upgraded in consultation with students. The faculty also offers students six computer labs with modern equipment.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    The students are directly involved in projects in applied research with industry and through their work on practically-oriented topics as part of course assignments integrated in the research work. In addition, it is also possible to participate in a university-wide student project: development of an electric race car. The department conducts, e.g. research work in the following areas: Energy self-sufficient buildings, cogeneration, supercondensers, etc. This is also reflected in the formation of several affiliated institutes to support research and development.

    Small study groups and personal atmosphere, practically-oriented training in modern laboratories, top business contacts for optimum career prospects after the degree course, relaxed housing market and low rents, 24-hour library, drop-out study, analyses of course progress.
