Special features regarding teachingHigh level of student participation in teaching primarily thanks to use of seminars; High level of interdisciplinarity thanks to regular courses with teachers from other philologies as well as Aesthetics and Media Sciences. High focus on methods at all levels. The linguistic laboratories are an essential component of teaching in the Department of Linguistics and thus contribute significantly to student training.

Special features regarding the international orientationJoint student-mobility programme in the literature, art and media studies and linguistics departments. Own Erasmus coordination and internationalisation coordination office. The departments pursue a coordinated internationalisation strategy with the aim of developing student and lecturer mobility quantitatively and qualitatively.

Special features regarding the equipmentThe department of Linguistics has modern, well-equipped laboratories for experimental linguistics where corpus and computer linguistics studies, speech production and speech perception experiments, as well as psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic studies can be pursued.

Special features regarding research activitiesThe Department of Literary, Art and Media Studies is a member of the Zentrum für kulturwissenschaftliche Forschung (ZkF) at the University of Konstanz. The current topics of the ‘Questions at the Interfaces’ research group are directly integrated into teaching, as are topics from the Cluster of Excellence on ‘The Politics of Inequality’.

Other special featuresin the field of Linguistics, the study of all basic theoretical areas of Linguistic Theory is combined with quantitative research in Experimental Linguistics (Phonetics, Psycholinguistics, Neurolinguistics) and Computer Linguistics.
